For a romantic destination wedding, there’s nowhere in Australia like Tasmania! When you elope in Tasmania, you’re surrounded by gorgeous mountains and scenery, with lots of unique venues and plenty of amazing outdoor activities to enjoy. It’s also stress-free to plan, as there are so many secluded spots, Airbnbs, and romantic restaurants where you can say your vows and celebrate, free from crowds.
Tasmania is ideal for active couples who love the outdoors, appreciate amazing cuisine, and want to extend their trip and travel around the island. You can easily fly into either Hobart or Launceston — it’s just a short flight from cities like Melbourne or Adelaide, but it feels completely different from the rest of Australia.
If you need more inspiration, here’s why Tasmania is perfect for a romantic and intimate elopement!
Why Elope In Tasmania?
It’s All About The Unmatched Natural Beauty

The pristine, breathtaking landscapes are easily reason enough to visit! Despite its small size, you’ll find dramatic mountains and unspoilt beaches in places like Freycinet National Park, Cradle Mountain, Wineglass Bay, and Bay of Fires.
Wineglass Bay in particular is often recognised as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, with crystal clear turquoise water and its natural curved horseshoe shape, framed by the rugged granite Hazard mountain range. A short hike takes you up to a stunning lookout spot from which you can see the whole bay — this place does get busy with tourists though, so I recommend considering a sunrise elopement if you choose this spot.

You’ll also find dense forests, epic waterfalls, and unique wildlife, even just a short drive away from the capital city of Hobart.
As your elopement photographer in Tasmania, I’ll ensure we capture the romance of your big day, framed by the gorgeous natural light and stunning landscapes these locations provide — it’ll give your images such a feeling of adventure and excitement.
You’ll discover so many unique & intimate wedding destinations in Tasmania
Not only does Tasmania deliver with the scenery, but you’ll also find many private venues and remote wilderness retreats where you can celebrate, whether you’re all about rustic vibes or the ultimate in luxury.
Five-star lodges like Saffire Freycinet and Peppers Cradle Mountain are nestled in beautifully lush landscapes, or you can also relax in a boutique inn or BnB. Camping is also amazing here — for example, you could plan a Bruny Island elopement and camp at Cloudy Bay, a secluded beach ideal for surfing.
Or, another really unique venue would be Sandridge Estate, a romantic and secluded glamping farm on the North West Coast. Say your vows in a rainforest or remote bushland, wallabies frolicking in the distance, then spend the night in glamping tents after dancing and celebrating all night — so romantic!
The cuisine (and culture) is out of this world!
Tasmania has long been known for its incredible cuisine and local delicacies like fresh lobster and abalone, award-winning whiskey and wine, salmon, and incredibly fresh produce.
Hobart is known as a foodie destination, offering everything from fine dining to the weekly Salamanca Markets, ideal for sampling cheeses and sweets from local makers. Whether you want to go all out with a degustation in one of Tasmania’s best restaurants or are all about savouring a picnic you compiled after a morning stroll through the markets, you’ll love the fresh flavours found here.
You’ll eat so well here, but you can also discover amazing culture and history. One you won’t want to miss is the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), just outside Hobart — a completely wild art gallery unlike any other! There are also lots of places to visit and learn about Tasmania’s convict heritage and Indigenous history.
Tasmania is a dream for outdoor adventures before or after your elopement

One of the best reasons to plan an elopement in Tasmania is that you can so seamlessly blend your wedding with an adventure holiday! It can be so fun to rent a campervan for your honeymoon and travel the island, as the best way to get around is by having your own transport. You can take your time, set your own schedule, and watch the stars before falling asleep inside — so dreamy!
It’ll be so memorable to wake up each morning in a completely gorgeous environment, spending your days together and enjoying the adventures that Tasmania is known for. Camping, hiking, wildlife watching, or mountain biking are some of the best ways to immerse yourself in the landscapes while having the absolute best time!
We can also take some gorgeous candid photos with your retro-styled campervan, creating such unique images of your adventure.
